If you're looking for a new CRM but don't want to choose between established market leaders, Attio seems like a solid choice.

However, there are certain downsides to consider, too. From the complex onboarding to limited integrations and inconsistent customer support, Attio leaves much to be desired.

Today, we'll show you why you should reconsider purchasing Attio and what you might want to look at instead.

Key reasons to look for Attio alternatives

There are not that many Attio reviews online (only about 30 on G2 at the moment of writing), and they're all very mixed. While most Attio users praise how customizable this CRM is, the complaints all point to the same issues:

The integration capabilities are limited

Integrations are Attio's weak point because there just isn't much choice, not only compared to enterprise CRMs, but also compared to other small business CRM tools. These are the only native integrations available:

For everything else, you can connect Attio with Zapier and unlock 5,000+ different integrations. Of course, using Zapier with anything means paying extra for each Zap, which means that Attio can end up being fairly expensive if you have an advanced tech stack.

Out of all the missing integrations, users most frequently complain about not being able to connect with LinkedIn:

"It is not intended for outbound. And it doesn't have an integration with LinkedIn's inbox, as it has with Gmail, is improving in integrations, but little else." - G2 review

The pricing plans pose limitations that force you to upgrade

Attio CRM has one free plan and three paid plans. The Free plan is fairly limited as it gives you just three seats and objects and 50,000 records: a fair amount for businesses that have never had a CRM. However, most small businesses switching from any tool (or even spreadsheets) will find the record limit too low.

The cheapest plan is called Plus and costs $29 per user per month (billed annually), and you can add unlimited users to your team. However, you're limited to 250,000 records, which means you can scale, but only until you hit this ceiling. Perhaps more importantly, this plan doesn't include email sequences.

The Pro plan sets you back $69 per user per month and comes with some neat extras, such as custom objects and relationship attributes. Records are unlocked to 1 million. The most notable difference is the addition of team management features, which come by default in other CRM tools in cheaper plans.

The Enterprise plan only removes limitations. There are no additional features that can't be found in cheaper plans.

Attio CRM has a steep learning curve

While many sales and marketing teams will appreciate the customizability of Attio (especially compared to established enterprise CRM platforms), there is quite a bit to do before you get to any customization.

One of the biggest complaints about Attio is how difficult it is to get started with. This encompasses workflow management:

"Setting up workflows can be tricky the first time you do it. There is lots of information available to help, but it still just doesn't feel simple. It took me a lot of trial and error to start. Now it's easy, but it took me longer than expected to learn." - G2 review

Despite uploading data multiple times, the software failed to process my leads correctly, leaving me with only a fraction of what I intended to upload, even though my total lead count was under the stated limit for the free account. Attributes I named were ignored, and the software created unnamed entities instead. The process was time-consuming and inefficient, which is particularly frustrating during the crucial early stages of a startup where time equals money. And when you get stuck and need help figuring things out, there may be no one available to help.

The customer support could be improved

Depending on which plan you're on, you'll have different levels of customer support available. The more you spend, the higher the likelihood that you'll talk to a human being. In short:

  • Users on the Free and Plus plans have access to the Attio help center + email, and chat support
  • Pro and Enterprise plan users have priority support, but it's not stated whether this is over the phone or not

Combine this with the complex onboarding, and you'll determine that Attio is not beginner-friendly. Or, as one G2 user put it:

"Customer support has not always been that responsive when we reached out. True that there are some standard pages for problems that solve 80% of the work, but you can really struggle with the remaining 20%"

Attio has a good combination of flexibility and advanced features that can convince you to leave your bloated, enterprise CRM. But if you're just purchasing your first CRM, it just won't fit the bill.

If you need an integration with a popular marketing automation tool, or a simple calendar integration with something from your tech stack, you'll run into a wall. And if you want to access those advanced features, you'll need to spend some time learning.

In short, Attio CRM can be a good option if you're switching from something even more complex, expensive, and riddled with features you never use. But even then, Attio doesn't provide the value for money compared to most of its competitors.
