Junior Infrastructure Engineer

We’re looking for a recent graduate to join our operations team. As part of the operations team, you’ll be learning to manage the infrastructure for our application used by thousands of business customers around the globe. You’ll be working alongside a friendly team at our HQ in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Responsibilities

  • Implement robust, secure, efficient and maintainable code in our automated deployment infrastructure
  • Keep up to date with security threats and ensure the infrastructure is protected
  • Ensure the availability and performance of Capsule around the world, around the clock
  • Scale our infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing customer base
  • Maintain and grow our consolidated logging, monitoring and alerting tools to provide insight into Capsule and its components for the entire team
  • Continually ensure resilience and recovery functions are reliable for our databases and data stores
  • Stay up-to-date with infrastructure trends and look for opportunities to take advantage of these in our operation

Requirements

  • Relevant degree level education or equivalent work experience
  • Solid experience with Unix/Linux systems and scripting skills such as Python
  • Comfortable in a start-up style environment
  • Driven to solve people’s problems, communicate clearly and contribute positively in a team environment
  • Hands-on, passionate and persistent
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Strong organisational and task management skills and ability to deliver efficiently without constant supervision

For bonus points

  • Production experience with applications deployed in the Cloud
  • Understanding of version control and git
  • Familiar with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet
  • Experience with databases and other storage infrastructure
  • Certification with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Solid understanding of the web stack and HTTP concerns (e.g. HTTP protocol, status codes, cookies, headers, asset caching, oauth, JSON)
  • Experience with container deployments such as Docker
