We’re looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer. As part of the operations team, you’ll be working to ensure Capsule is fast, reliable and secure for thousands of business customers around the globe. You’ll be working alongside a friendly team at our HQ in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Responsibilities

  • Implement robust, secure, efficient and maintainable code in our automated deployment infrastructure
  • Keep up to date with security threats and ensure the infrastructure is protected
  • Ensure the availability and performance of Capsule around the world, around the clock
  • Scale our infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing customer base
  • Maintain and grow our consolidated logging, monitoring and alerting tools to provide insight into Capsule and its components for the entire team
  • Continually ensure resilience and recovery functions are reliable for our databases and data stores
  • Stay up-to-date with infrastructure trends and look for opportunities to take advantage of these in our operation

Requirements

  • Production experience with applications deployed in the Cloud
  • Familiar with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet
  • Solid experience with Unix/Linux systems administration and scripting skills such as Python
  • Experience with databases and other storage infrastructure
  • Relevant degree level education or equivalent work experience
  • Comfortable in a start-up style environment
  • Driven to solve people’s problems, communicate clearly and contribute positively in a team environment
  • Hands-on, passionate and persistent
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Strong organisational and task management skills and ability to deliver efficiently without constant supervision

For bonus points

  • Certification or production experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Solid understanding of the web stack and HTTP concerns (e.g. HTTP protocol, status codes, cookies, headers, asset caching, oauth, JSON)
  • Plenty of production experience with MySQL, Amazon RDS, Redis and ElasticSearch
  • Production experience tuning the JVM and deploying Java or Scala applications
  • Experience with container deployments such as Docker
  • Git mastery
