We are looking for software engineers who get excited about creating elegant, scalable, robust and maintainable solutions to complex problems. You’ll be developing on good kit alongside a friendly team at our Manchester HQ who share the same qualities. Depending on your skills you’ll have a chance to work on the front-end, back-end / API, mobile application and integrations with 3rd party systems. Our large customer base is growing quickly and so this is a great opportunity to work with highly scalable systems.

We use languages and libraries that are best suited to the job and our application. Our application is primarily a JVM back-end implemented in Java and Scala with a JavaScript front-end. We also have several other side projects you have the opportunity to be involved with including our mobile application and a number of micro-services. We manage source with GitHub. We use Jenkins to automate our tests and builds. We deploy to Amazon Web Services using fully scripted deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with designers and other developers to take a design from the whiteboard to reality
  • Implement robust, secure, efficient and maintainable code for our applications
  • Embed test cases for the application logic
  • Correct bugs and other technical issues in our existing applications to keep technical debt to a minimum
  • Stay up-to-date with application development trends and look for opportunities to take advantage of these in our applications and development processes

Requirements

  • BSc or higher in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java or Scala
  • Understand that resolving issues is just as important as building new features
  • Passionate and persistent

For bonus points

  • Solid understanding of the full web technology stack (e.g. HTTP protocol, status codes, cookies, headers, asset loading / caching)
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux
